You might feel heavy every morning. You feel heavy, not your body. Your chest feels tight. Your mind is like under pressure. You want to sleep all day or never sleep at all. You snap at your kids. You cry in the car. Then you go back normal like nothing happened. This is how depression lives in women. Quietly, deeply and alone. But you don't have to stay like this.
Why It's More common in Women
Women get depression twice as often as men. It’s not because we are physically weak. It’s because our bodies and lives are different than men. At jobs, women face more difficulties. At home, children are more dependent on mothers as compared to fathers. They have less free time for themselves than men.
Your Hormones Play a Big Role
Your hormones change a lot. Before your period, you may feel rage or deep sadness. In the periods, migraine, body pain and cramps make worse for women. After having a baby, you might feel numb instead of happy. You might think you’re a bad mother. You are not. You face several sleepless nights. Many hormones change at that time. You feel bone tired. That’s depression.
Workload Is Too Much
You try to do everything. Your job's demands, Your Kids' needs, Dinner responsibilities and Bills, all these things take out a lot of energy from your body. You take care of everyone else. No one asks who takes care of you. That weight gets heavy. After a while, you just feel tired all the time.
Depression Looks Different At Different Times
Sometimes depression looks like crying but sometimes looks like anger. You snap at people. You feel guilty for no reason. Your back and head hurts. You go through the motions and feel empty inside.
Why People feel helpless
You might hide it or you just don't realize your inner feelings. When you realize, You think, “Other women handle this. Why can’t I?” That’s the depression lying to you.
But when you don't realize your inner feelings, You go to the doctor for being tired. They say it’s stress. They say it’s hormones. You start to believe nothing is really wrong. But something is wrong.
A Small Way Forward
Here is the truth. You are not broken. You are not alone. You should learn to be open in front of your husband, your kids, your parents or your siblings. In your life, there is always someone special who has a special bond with you. Who can understand you and comfort you. So, talk to that special someone. You don't have to be the superwoman. You just have to take one small step. The right help can lighten the load. You deserve that.take one small step. The right help can lighten the load. You deserve that.
